Deform: Method applied to Armox Advance
We have now developed our hot forming process, for Armox Advance, the toughest armour steel on the market. Steel hardness for Armox Advance is measured by the Rockwell C method and is in the range of 58-63HRC. With Deform: MethodTM, we start from Armox Advance and are able to restore the properties after our hot forming process.
Now we can offer our customers 3D-shaped products for ballistic protection of absolute world class.
The first customer required the product to withstand the STANAG Level 2 protection class, which normally would correspond to an 8mm plate that is 570-640 HB. With Armox Advance only a 7mm plate is needed, which results in a weight saving of 12.5%. Another advantage is of course that weld seams are eliminated. Around each weld there is a heat-affected zone that weakens the material properties. Last but not least, space can be saved in new designing or new ballistic level can be facilitated in existing design.
To further verify our process, we have conducted a hardness profile measurement with Vickers. The table below clearly shows that we have restored the hardness of the material throughout the thickness.
